January 2 update
From Mike Duivenvoorden:
Lack of snow has been a blessing of sorts — we had another trails maintenance day today and made some excellent progress thanks to a couple of new faces and some repeats. There are a few other things that can be done but we have long surpassed our goals for this Phase 1.
We have an incredible 15 plus km of groomable trails; most are wider than what can be found at the Y. Roughly speaking:
- 3 to 4 km require very little snow
- approximately 5 km of trail are between 401 Corkstown (the equestrian park) to 411 Corkstown (the campground); most are in the woods, likely less than 1500 m are in the open and even then they follow tree lines and will only have wind exposure under some conditions
- approximately 6 km will require more snow cover before they can be groomed.
We have run two Racer sessions on snow in the evenings at The Parks with great success.
The dream is becoming a reality much faster than we hoped. Let’s spread the message.
